THE NOR’-WEST ARCH.
UNUSUAL POSITION. The north-west arch to-day was an unusual one. Instead of lying parallel with the Alps, it stretched right across the skv overhead. Mr Seay, of the Meteorological observatory, attributed this to an abnormality in the air currents. "I believe," he said, "that this arch, which is an abnormal one, was due to a change in the atmospheric conditions. and cross-currents in the air. Usually, the arch lies oxer the Alps, and a nor'-west breeze blows in both upper and lower strata of the air, but to-day, only the tipper current was nor -west, a light north-east breeze blowing below, tending to north. The direction of the arch was S.E. and N.W. instead of north to south, as in most cases."
