THE VALUE OF CHANGE.
(By
MARY LOVAT)
“ Those 'were grand days,” said the boardinghouse cat, “ when women wore j brocades ; that lasted a lifetime- You < had a fine silk gown on your marriage, and you wore it until you became . a grandmother. Your satin dolman j was so rich and so handsome that you ! could have it made over a dozen times I and then hand it down to be cut up for some niece or young cousin. These J are terribly trivial days in comparison; i everybody buys half a dozen frocks a : season, all as ephemeral and as fragile as you please.” To which the appropriate answer is j “ Bosh!” Nice, dull, monotonous lives j the wearers of those enduring garments j led- A reasonable change in the matter of dress is stimulating to the highest ! degree. You put on a different garment. and immediately you feel a du- | ferent individual. You cannot grow stale ; or Hat or even unprofitable if you have j j a different hat or a new frock to goad i ; you into livelinncss. Kven to change | three or four times during the day is ! in itself a physical refreshment, in j spite of the labour involved (no great • labour, either, in these days ci slip-on ; frocks and pull-on hats'. Frequent change of raiment, plenty , [ of baths, renewed hair dressing—these things make subconsciously for refresh- j ment. And the who would \ keep fresh and young will do well to till her wardrobe with as many frocks and hats as her means will allow. Woman’s “ infinite variety ” is best helped by a similar variation in her frocks and frill:;.
