WATCHFULNESS.
Watchfulness is a term cf varied meaning- Sometimes it means only alertness; sometimes vigilance. It signifies, also, outlooking, apprehension of danger, as when a sailor is on the outlook, or, as when a sentinel is peering on every side, suspicious of some lurking foe. In short, watching includes every shade of that state which puts a mind in earnest to avoid evil and secure good.—Beecher.
