PERSONAL.
Major R. T. McArthur, Chief Engineer of the Post and Telegraphs in the Union of South Africa, has begun in Otago a tour of New Zealand as commissioner from the South African Government to inquire and report on the working of the Department in thii country, particularly regarding the development of automatics and New Zealand methods of rural telephone distribution. He will conclude his tour at Auckland, lie is accompanied by Mr Shrimpton. Chief Engineer of the New Zealand Department. Mr W. H. P. Anderson, who is uow on a world tour for the Mission to Lepers, arrived in Christchurch on Saturday morning. He has an inter esting story to tell of the great advances made lately in the methods of treatment, which are used in the homes which his society support in the East. He will address a meeting, giving information on the subject, to-morrow evening, at 7.30 in the Y.M.C.A. concert hall. Air Anderson is tho guest of Mr and Airs Malcolm, in Park Terraco. and will leave Christchurch for Ashburton on Wednesday morning.
