PETITION UPHELD.
DISPUTED ELECTION. WAIMAIRI SCHOOL COMMITTEE. I lie .submissions made in a petition of protest against the conduct of the aimairi School Committee election have been upheld by Mr T. F. -Martin, of Wellington, solicitor for the Municipal Association, and the election lias been declared invalid. '1 lie petition was raised by the l*apanui Burgesses’ Association, who protested against the meeting of householders being presided over by one who was not n householder. Further objection was made against the placing ul crosses on the ballot paper beside the nan.vs of retiring committeemen. Mr Martin said that the Act gave the chairman a deliberative vote; therefore he had to be a member of tne committee. In his opinion the indication on the ballot papers of retiring members was an irregularity tending lo influence votes and was serious enough to invalidate The election.
