KING’S THEATRE, SYDENHAM.
“.CROOKED ALLEY ” AND “THE ‘ “ LONE CHANCE. * Life in a world apart is reviewed with dramatic effect in “ Crooked Alley," a Universal all-star production which opens its showing at the King’s Theatre to-night. The world apart is Crooked Alley, haven of those who live without any lawful visible means of support, and who are always under the watchful eye of the police. San Francisco’s underworld is pictured without exaggeration, but its types are colourful and interesting. “ Crooked Alley “ tells a story of revenge, but not "blood}-
revenge.” It is the revenge of the mind, through carefully laid plans. There is a strong philosophical meaning in this and in the way in which it is developed The second feature on the programme is “ The Lone. Chance,” a William Fox special, featuring John Gilbert. There are also topical and comedy items, as well as Episode Four of “ The Social Buccaneer.”
