GRAND THEATRE.

"THE GARDEN OF WEEDS.” "THREE WOMEN.” One of the finest casts ever seen in pictures appears in James Cruze’s latest production for Paramount. " The Garden of Weeds,” which will be the featured at the Grand Theatre to-day Betty Compson, whose recent dramatic successes have won her new plaudits, is starred. The story affords her a marvellous opportunity for the display of her dramatic ability. Warner Baxter, Rockliife Fellowes, Charles Ogle and Al. St John appear in support. “ The Garden of Weeds,” adapted to the screen by Walter Woods and Anthony Coldeway, deals with the theatre’s mysterious “ back-stage ” and witli the adventures in love of a beautiful young chorus girl. " Three Women,” the sensational Master picture and supporting attraction, is a story of one man and three women, made even more uncommon by a mother-daughter combination in the trio. May M’Avoy, in the role of the charming daughter, is more alluring than e\ r er, and Pauline Frederick is perfect in her portrayal of a mother defeated in love by her own daughter. Marie Prevost, as the third rival for the love, of one man, is charmingly convincing. In fact, the story seems to have been written for just these three women. Th» acts in this picture are magnificent. Another delightful programme of music by Mr Harold Beck’s String Quartet will accompany the picture programme. Items include:—“La Racleuse ” (Ewen) ; "Cavatina” (Beethoven) ; entr'acte, “ Moon Dream Shore”; piano solo, “ Licbestraume ” Liszt); ballet suite, “ Feramors ” (Rubinstein) ; two waltzes (Brahms) ; finale, “New World Symphony ” ( Dvorak) : fox trots, etc. Seats may be reserved at The Bristol or Grand Theatre telephone 2004.
