S.M.’S ADVICE TO MOTHERS Bast Saturday morning five small boys, ranging in ago from six to eleven years, were before the Magistrate’s Court charged with having stolen lead from the premises of the Farmers’ Saleyards, with damaging that property, and with having .stolen a sunv of money from a private residence. Two of the boys, who were described as the ringleaders of the little gang, were committed to the Christchurch Receiving Home and the Magistrate (Mr H. Y. Widdowsoif, S.M.) ordered that they receive a. thrashing. "With regard to the other three boys they wero remanded till to-day. They must not go out at night time or to the pictures without his permission.” “Do you understand that?” said the Magistrate to the mothers, who nodded in reply. “If there is the slightest disobedience of his orders he will have power to bring the boys Lack here.” Senior-Sergeant Rewin said the mother of the two boys, who had been committed to the Receiving Home, had paid £1 16s towards the cost of the damage. The mothers of the other three hoys were each ordered to pay 3s sd, tho balance required for full restitution.
