ELLESMERE SEAT.
FOUR NAMES FOR THE BALLOT. It is probable that four nallies will he submitted to the ballot for the selection of a "Reform candidate for th© .Ellesmere seat. A meeting; of the .Reform Tarty in tbo electorate will be held in a fortnight s time, and the names which or© likely to bp submitted to thc ballet are: -Messrs D. Jones (former member for Kaiapoi), J. J>. Hall (president of the North Canterbury - xcei.tivc of th© Farmers’ Union), W. H. Montgomery < Little River) and Trank Loop (chairman ol the Wsi ire tv a County Council). Mr Montgomery has had previous political experience, having represented Ellesmere from 1393 to 1599, as a Liberal. Ho was defeated by bii* Head on Rhodes, who has been the representative ever since. Mr Montgomery is a son of the. late Hon Vf. Montgomery, who was leader of the Opposition against the Hall Government and subsequently leader of the Legislative Council during the Sp<l- - Government’s reign. Air Montgomery is it. son-in-law of Sir James Allen, High Commissioner for New Zealand. Mr Hall has contested the Christchurch North seat on two occasions unsuccessfully.
