Miss Ngaio Marsh, producer of “The 1 Sleeping Beauty,’’ is at present visiting Timaru, and is staying at the Hotel Grosvcnor. Mrs Henry Cottefill and Miss Betty Cotterill, Cashmere, are in Timaru for i the amateur production of “The Sleepi ing Beauty.” Captain and the Hon Mrs Tahu Rhodes left Christchurch yesterday for Timaru and are staying at the Grovenor Hotel. The marriage took place at St George's Church, Paris, on June 10, of Miss Ray P. Livingstone, of this city, to Mr Oscar Behringer, of Stockholm. Mr and Mrs A. S. Fleming (Gore: and Miss K. O’Meagkan (Timaru) have arrived from the north and arc staying at the Clareudon Hotel. Miss D. Brown, member of the Canterbury head centre of the Royal Lifesaving Society, was granted leave of absence for a few months at last night’s meeting of the centre. Miss Brown has sailed for Sydney. Miss M. O. Stoddart, the well-known Christchurch artist, has been advised that two of her pictures, both of scenes in Tahiti, have been hung in Le Salon des Artistes Francais, Paris. In consequence of the honour. Miss Stoddart has received requests for her biography and the history of her paintings from several Parisian journals interested in Art. Al’Aulay (Albury), Mr John Trotter (Albury), Mr C. Webber (Timaru). The Ambassador Cabaret Club held a very successful dance last evening in j Dixieland. The guests danced to the J music of the Ambassador Jazz Band. The excellent music combined with numerous novelties made the evening a very pleasant one. Dixieland was beautifully decorated for the occasion. Amongst those present were: Mr and Airs Sydney Hunt, Air and Airs Banfield, Air and Airs E. Ferry, Air and Mrs R. Grant, Air and Mrs E. A very pleasant evening was spent on Saturday last, when a. number of friends visited Tai Tapu to say au rcvoir to Air J. Cochrane, who is shortly transferring his farming activities to Springfield. The evening was spent with music and dancing. The entertainment was supplied by solos, Alessrs J. Woods, Walton, sen., Stanley Asquith, Mrs Stan. Asquith and little Miss Joy Asquith; trio, Alessrs R. Humphreys, D. Ryan and S. Asquith: duets, Mr and Mrs Stan. Asquith; violin solo, G. Walton; pipe solo,* 1 Piper G. Walton. Mr Cochrane delighted his guests ■with three solos. Miss Ellie Ryan and Aliss L. Humphreys were the accompanists. At the conclusion of the games and dancing, Air Walton, sen., in a well-worded speech, voiced the sentiments of all present, expressing great sorrow at the loss of such a worthy friend from the district, but at the same time expressed the warmest of wishes tor his health and success in his new sphere. He then asked Mr Cochrane to accept from his many friends' a case of pipes and a go 14-mounted tobacco pouch, as a small token of esteem. Mr Cochrane, in accepting the gifts, warmly thanked his many friends and extended them a hearty welcome to his new residence whenever they were in his district. The merry party finished with the singing of “ Auld Lang Sync.” Amongst those present were: —Alesdames Ryan, Hill and Asquith; Misses L. Humphreys, M. Ryan, E. Ryan and little Joy Asquith; Messrs J. Air and F. T. Avcnt have returned to Christchurch from Timaru. Aliss Freda Phillips returned to “The Point ” from Christchurch to-day-Miss Alargaret Tripp, Wai-iti Road, Timaru, arrived in Christchurch yesterday. Airs Walter Alacfarlane, who has been staying in Christchurch for several days, has returned to Kaiwarra. Lieutenant-Commander and Airs Sitwell, Adelaide, arc recent arrivals at the United Service Hotel. Miss Mills, who has been staying with Mrs W. E. Mills. “ Scotston,” Timaru, has returned to Sumner. Air and Airs Maurice O'Rorke, North Canterbury, who were the guests of Mrs Howard Tripp, Timaru, left for Dunedin on Tuesday. Miss Madeline Yyncr left Christchurch yesterday, and is the guest of Mrs W. H. Watson, Park Lane, Timaru, for the pantomime. A delightful party was given recently at the residence of Mr and Airs Coombs. Riccarton, the occasion being the coming of age of their youngest daughter, Phyllis- The house was tastefully decorated with streamers of mauve and pink entangled with branches of evergreens and coloured balloons, and the supper room, with decorated branches of pink cherry blossoms. A birthday cake, with its twenty-one Cupids, was cut by the guest of the evening, the usual toasts being sung with musical honours. Airs Coombs wore a frock of black satin charmantc relieved with gold lacc, while Aliss Phyllis Coombs chose a frock of cycalmen pink crepe de chine, the front being draped with silk lace of the same shade. Musical items were contributed by Alisses Edna Loader and P. Coombs and Messrs IL Ayres, R. Robinson, A. Wallace, A, Lovat, T.
