RETAIL PRICE REVIEW. CHEAPER FLOUR AND BREAD. Following on. the reduction of £1 a ion in the wholesale price of flour a reuuction has been made in the retail rates of 3d on the 251 b bag, 6d on the 561 b and Is on the 1001 b. The new prices are 5s Gd for the 251 b bag, 10s 9d for the 501 b, and 21s for the 1001 b At a mettmg of the Canterbury Master Bakers’ Association, held on Saturday night, it was decided to reduce the price of bread by a farthing on the 21b leaf and a half-penny on the 41b loaf. The new prices are:—2ib loaf 61 cash over the counter, 62d delivered, 4ib loaf Is 0-jjd cash over the counter and Is lid delivered. It was stated at the meeting that the bakers would be losiug 7s Gd as the id reduction on the 41b loaf meant 27s Gd less profit on a toil of flour. PRICE OF EGGS. The supply of eggs is still on the decrease and last week another increase in prices was recorded. First grade hen eggs (guaranteed fresh), arc being retailed at as much as 3s 4d a dozen, or over 3d a piece. For a good many people this is a prohibitive price. Chilled eggs are, of course, a good deal cheaper. VEGETABLES AND FRUIT. Cabbages cost 4d, Gd and Sd each. Good caulflowers are now very scarce.

Large ones are being retailed at Is 9d and 2s each and small ones at Cd and Sd. Owing to the prevalence of blight good table potatoes are not at all plentiful at present. They now cost 10lb for Is compared with 121 b for Is earlier in the season. Parsnips, carrots, beetroot and white turnips cost 2d a bunch, lettuces 3d and 4d each, celery 8d and 9d a bunch, leeks 6d a bunch, spring onions 2d a bunch, marrows and pumpkins 2d a lb, table onions Sd a string, hothouse grown cucumbers Isa lb. Outside grown cucumbers are now finished. New shipments of bananas and Island oranges are now on sale in Christchurch. The bananas cost 6, 8 and 12 for Is, and the oranges 3 and 4 for Is. Italian lemons are being areitled at 4 for Is. Enquiries have been received for marmalade oranges, but so far this season none have arrived in Christ-

church. However, they arc expected to come to hand shortly. Sydney passion fruit costs 5 for Is. Winter Coles pears (locally grown) Gd a lb. Lord Wolseley cooking apples 31b for Is, first grade Jonathan apples 31b for Is 3d, first grade Delicious 6d a lb. fresh coconuts 4d and Gd each, Sydney pie melons for jam 51b for Is. Locally grown grapes axe now getting done and they cost 3s and 3s Gd a lb. Outside grown tomatoes, which are being retailed at 4d and Gd a lb, are also becoming scarce. Poaches and all classes of stone fruit are now finished. FISIT PRICES. Supplies of fresh fish were rather short to-day. Following are some prices a lb :—Groper lOd (in the piece), Is (cutlets), kingfish Is, ling 7d, and soles Is 3d. There were no flounders available to-day. Trevalli was fairly plentiful and was being retailed at 6 for Is. No oysters arrived in Christchurch from the Bluff on Saturday night, and it is not known when further supplies will be coming to hand.
