SUMNER RIPPLES

CHRONICLES OF THE WEEK

By Our Special Correspondent.

BOROUGH COUNCIL. Very keen interest was taken in the election held on Wednesday. A large number of motor-cars were engaged during the day transporting electors to and from the booths. Arrangements were also made ■whereby electors in the city were conveyed to Redcliffs during the day. This scheme worked very satisfactorily, but in future years the advisability of establishing a booth in the city, as was done this year by a rival borough, must be given consideration. The polling was very heavy at both booths, the result being that the following were elected as the new Council:—Councillors H. W. Harris, A. H. Tutill, A. Holden, F. C. Cooper, C. I. Denham, B. J. Agar, E. A. Johnson and C. M. Roswell. The Mayor, Air W. FI. Nicholson, was returned unopposed. Air Nicholson, in announcing the result of the poll, thanked the electors for their confidence in returning him unopposed. A strong council had been elected, and the two-years term would enable certain work which had been commenced to be carried to a successful conclusion.
