PRINCE IN CAPE TOWN.

ENTHUSIASTIC WELCOME. By Telegraph—Press Aasociat on—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. CAPE TOWN, May 1. Though South Afrieun crowds are not noted for demonstrative enthusiasm, it is generally admitted that tho welcome to the Prince of Wales far surpassed anything previously experienced. The illuminations are on a scal6 hitherto unknown here. The principal streets were a dense mass, Europeans. Natives and Indians mingling in common enthusiasm. It was remarked during the morning that the Prince’s famous smile was not so much in evidence as usual, but his demeanour and affability generally made the happiest impression. Undoubtedly the long-looked-for visit has commenced under the most favourable auspices The Prince was installed as Chancellor of the Cape Town University.
