NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL MEETING. The twenty-fourtli annual meeting of the New Zealand Hockey Association was held last evening; present—Messrs H. 8. J. Gt odman (chairman), R. Grade (Nelson), L. Butcher and E. S. Strack (Wellington), H Throp (Buller), C. Bellamy (Canterbury), A. Drayton (Wairarapa), J. Taylor and G. Ellj-ett (Auckland). A. F. Preston (Manawatu), W. A. The Wellington Assqciation wrote suggesting that the annual tournament be held in "Wellington, and made numerous suggestions for rules governing the tournament. Mr Butcher (Wellington) supported the request, stating that tho Wellington Association were willing to control and govern the tournament, providing they were al.owed to take all receipts and meet all expenses. The Wellington Association suggested tnat a combined tournament be held tor ladies and men and that the New Zealand eleven be selected at the tournament. and the test match be played a few days after the conclusion of the tournament. The suggestion was favourably received and a motion was carried that the shield rules be suspended for another season, and to hold the tournment iTi Wellington in August, the details to be arranged by the executive and the YVellington Association. Mr W. Rothwell, of the New South Wales Hockey Association, cabled that in all probability the invitation of the New Zealand Association would be accepted. The Otalci Hockey Club applied for direct affiliation, but as the club consisted of only three teams, it was arranged that they be advised to apply for affiliation to the Manawatu AssociaIn view of the Australian visit and the tournament, the question of holding an inter-Island match this season was held over. * Mr Quartermain brought up the question of international hockey, and suggested that Air L. U. Norton be empowered to interview the hockey authorities in England on the matter. The secretary reported having received a letter from Air Norton who stated that he was prepared to do all he possibly could to help the game. Mr Butcher was instructed to approach the New Zealand Referees’ Association with a view to putting that body on a sound footing.
