A devotional meeting for women under the auspices of the Mothers’ Union was held in St John’s Church, Latimer Square, on Tuesday. The intei cessions were taken by the Rev K. C. W. Powell, vicar of All Saints, Sumner, who also gave the address. Among those present were several members of the newlyformed branch at Spreydon. Recent arrivals at the Hotel Federal include:—Mrs J. Noble, Greymouth; Mr and Mrs Scofield, Akaroa. The weekly tennis tournament arranged by Mrs J. C. Lord and Miss Nicholson, held at Wilding Park yesterday, was again a most successful afternoon. The winners of yesterday s tournament were Mrs Hooper and Miss Harper. The players included: Mesdames Forgie, Harper, Ardlcy, Epps, Christianson, Brock, Hodgson, M’Rae, De la Cour, Herdman, Hooper, Cocks, Schmidt, Knight, Mercer, Nurses Baxter, Banneld and Ferguson. The seating capacity of the Y.M.C.A. Concert Hall was taxed to its utmost limit on Friday night, the tion by Miss Beck, who gave the first evening for the Home Economics Association. Mrs George Cooper, the president, introduced Miss Beck, who has just returned from a visit to England and America with quite a number of new ideas. Miss Beck’s demonstration was on savouries, in which she used a .variety of green vegetables. The table set out with the dainty dishes tastefully Served created a great deal of interest, and they were readily sold, being insufficient to meet the demand. Miss Beck was accorded a. hearty vote of thanks at the close of the meeting. Dr Lilian Storms, from Dunedin University. will give the next evening, her subject being “ Diet and Nutrition.” On Monday evening a delightful party was given by Mr and Mrs Love for a number of friends at their beautiful home iu Papanui. Games and dancing were indulged in till an early hour. Musical items were rendered by Misses D. Campbell, L. Lowe, Grace .Maxwell, and Messrs F. Grange and \. Sutherland. Miss Daisy Fisk was the guest of honour at a delightful “china ’ ’ evening, given by Mr and Mrs J. G. Taylor at their residence, <SO, Buskin Street, at which over fifty guests took part in euchre, games and dancing. Miss Fisk was the recipient cf many gifts. An amusing competition was won by Miss Hose Bowden and Mr It. Wislaug. The euchre prizes went to Mr Arrow, and Mr Wislang and Miss Bowden and Mr lan Macdonald.
