General Hertzog made an important declaration on „he secession question. He said that, personally, ne thought .so far as the union of South Africa was concerned, secession would be a flagrant mistake and be a national disaster if caused by one section either British or Dutch, imposing its will on the other. lie did not fear chat secession would arise so long as each section retrained from asserting to superiority or dominance over the other.
