SUMNER HIGH SCHOOL.
At the conclusion of the annual sports meeting on Saturday afternoon, the chairman (Mr G. A. Alexander) stated that, following the successful meeting on Thursday evening, he had telegraphed tc the F.ducation Department and to Mr J. M’Combs, M.P. Telegrams had been received from the member stating that the Minister had approved of the District High School. He fully expected that the school would be open on February 1 next, and he impressed on all present the necessity for a good attendance at the opening. With an average attendance of thirty-one they would secure a secondary staff of two teachers. Mr M'Combs said that the committee l ad shown determined persistence in the matter, and but for this the project would not have been carried through. Mr W. H. Nicholson (flavor of Sumner), congratulating the committee. said that Sumner had a great deal of merit in its persistence, be- • au«p it had been able to establish a really good case. The borough would owe those who had worked for it a debt of thanks for years to come It would* be a splendid tiling for the district. and on behalf of the borough he had great pleasure in thanking those who had helped to bring the District High School into being.
