A railway fireman named M’lnnes shot dead a barmaid named Winifred Foley, aged 21 years, and then shot himself. She broke off the courtship, hut as lie persisted in pressing his attentions she sought the protection of the police, who warned the man. However. he still persisted and visited the hotel. The girl went to the police station and again complained. On returning M’lnnes met her and an altercation was proceeding when another admirer of the girl intervened. M'lnnes suddenly grasped the girl round the waist, shot her twice through the breast, and then shot himself in the head. The police, who had visited the hotel in search of M'lnnes. arrived on the scene just as the man shot himself.
