SWIMMING.

UNITED CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the United Swimming Club was held on Saturday night, Mr W J. Hopkins presiding. The report, and balaune-sheet. of which particulars have been published, were adopted. The president made special reference to the municipal baths. Ho said that although the club had already recorded thanks to Mr Broward (the custodian) lie thought that the meeting should pa? 3 a vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs Breward for the great interest that, they had shown, particularly in the welfare of members of swimming clubs. Many improvements had been carried out at, the baths, including an increase in the number of hot and cold showers and there was practically an unlimited supply of hot water. The caretaker now asked every person to have a good Bhower before using the baths and this would help to keep the water very much cleaner. A new foot bath for childreu had been completed, and fifty juniors could have a hot and cold wash before entering tiie bath and seeing that, something, like 170l> children visited the bath weekly this was an important improvement. Ladies would welcome the news that an electric hair dryer was being installed. The only club whose mem. her* attended the bath during the winter waa the United. Classes from the Technical School attended the bath during the winter months with the result that ninetynine boys gained certificates from the N Z.A.S.A. (fifty boys swimming one mile), and twenty-seven boys passed the Royal Life Waving Society's test for proficiency certificates, and two for bronae medallions. The baths had put up a record year. The attendances totalled 146,068, the cash receipts being £2367. The chairman said that in all his travels in Australia. Canada, Honolulu, and the Islands he had seen no such baths; even Toronto with its population of 700,000 and electric supply at. about one half-penny per unit <1 id not of the large centres. At Vancouver it was intended to erect two baths and particulars had gone, forward to a resident of that city. A motion was carried thanking Mr and Mrs Breward for the. interest they had shown to persons visiting the baths, and particularly to members of swimming clubs. A presentation of a gold medal was made to Mies Lily Copplestone. who had proposed the most members during the year. It was decided to affiliate with the Royal Life Saving Society.
