V royal love drama has been revealed in the suicide of the Countess Szechenyi. a Hungarian aristocrat. She was passionately in love with the Archduke Eugene, aged (i i, an uncle of the l;ite Emperor. He became engaged in January to a wealthy Swiss widow and thereupon sent to the Pope his resignation as a Chevalier of the Order or' St John, which enjoins celibacy. Meanwhile, the Archduke was on friendly terms with the Countess. After a final interview, prior to the Archduke’s marriage, she returned to her hotel and shot herself in the head with a revolver. The Archduke is greatly distressed.
