STRIKE AT NIGHTCAPS. | " MINES CLOSED DOWN. P-ep. Pr.i.ss Association. INVERCARGILL, July 17. A conference between representatives j or the- Aline Owners’ Association arm j 3.Xiners’ Union, held at Nightcaps to-day, failed to reach an agreement m connection with the strike there and the miners still remain out. After the conference had been in session overthree hours the union claims had been reduced to five, viz : (X) Charge for electric detonators. (-) Difference between solid rates and pillar rates at all local mines. (3) Solid rates at the Linton mine. (4) An interpretation of Clause 30 or the award which deals with truckin ~: (o') Provision for for time lost, by any man who is forced to vaciWc a working place on account of trouble with the ventilation, or from any other cause unless other work bo found for him. _ The owners agreed io discuss No i. No l! and No 4 of these matters, but declined to re-open the question of Linton solid tonnage rates on the* grounds that these had been agreed upon in April. In regard to No 6 they stated that, « while they could not agree to embody ! the suggested scheme ip the award, they would undertake to deal fairly on ! I hs merits with any case which mis-ht ' aviso. I Lhe deadlock therefore remains.
