DIED IN COURT.
TRAGIC ENDING TO CASE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 16. A police prosecution in the Magistrate’s Court to-day had a tragic ending, when the defendant collapsed and died soon alter hearing the Magistrate’s decision. I he case was one in which the police proceeded against Patrick Cavanagh, a. dairyman, over seventy years ol age, residing at Kaiwarra,' I'm- alleged ill! treatment of a calf. When the defendant h-etud the Magistrate, Mr Page, state that he thought that a conviction would have to be entered his head fell forward oil to the table at which he was sitting. The defendant was carried out of the Court into an adjoining room. Dr Henry was summoned and in about ten minutes’ time Sub-Inspector Cameron informed the Court that the defendant had expired.
