Thompson rej>orted to the Canterbury Education Jk>ard to-day that on the children’s visit to tho special squadron about 7500 children went on board the ( vessels, but there was not a single J accident. Alessrs J. AA'. A. AAalker ' and B. A. Af’Keown, headmasters, had acted as marshals on the wharves, and the excellent services they rendered contributed materially to the comfort of the children in boarding the vessels. The railway strike upset traffic arrangements seriously and it was only by very strenuous efforts on the part of the traffic manager and his officers that- train arrangements were made at short notice. The services rendered by the senior girls of the two Lyttelton schools in arranging for ] distribution of refreshments to country children was worthy of the thanks of the board. The board passed a motion thanking Alessrs Peverill and Thompson. Alessrs Walker am’ M’Keown, the railway authorities, and all others who helped.
