DAINTY LINGERIE.
Lingerie is exquisite in its simplicity. It is made of all kinds of lawn from the inexpensive “ lingerie lawn ’ in whit© and all pastel shades, to the fine handkerchief lawn which is used for dainty superfine "undies,” trimmed with real Valenciennes lace and hemstitching. A fine net edging also makes a pretty finish. Deep cream on white lawn is effective, but the loveliest set at a recent exhibition of hand-made trousseaux was of handkerchief lawn the colour of old lace, with net of the same shade edging the garments. On the front of the chemise and on the right knee of the knickers (which were cut on the wide French pattern) were applique butterflies. The fabric was cut away at the back of the appliques, so that the dainty, • gossamer butterflies were thrown into charming relief. Real Irish crochet edgings and tiny Irish crochet motifs are also used on lawn lingerie; a single oblong motif may be set in the centre of a nightdress front; or three narrow motifs, on© on each shoulder and one in the centi*o front.
For wear under coloured silk or cotton irr.'OKp, camj-knickers of the same shade are provided. Tho most desirable of these are fashioned from triple mnon (which launders so well), and tho only trimming is a little hand-veining.
