STOCK PRICES.

SUMMARY OF YESTERDAY’S SALE. Fat cattle and fat sheep were both yarded in large numbers at. the weekly stock sale at Addington yesterday. In each caso prices were about the same as those of last week. The entry of fat ccttle totalled 480 head compared with 670 at th© previous sale. The quality was better than last week. For good beef th© demand was well sustained throughout the sale at prices on a par with late rates. Secondary beef sold with somewhat less freedom than last week, whilst inferior stuff was harder than ever to dispose of. Price® a 1001 b were :—Prime beef 32s to 345, medium 27s to 31s, unfinished 22s 6d to 26s 6d and rough down to 12s 6d. Th© best line of steers was from Mr R. E. M’Dougall (Brookdale), seven making from £ls 17s 6d to £l6 17s 6d.

The entry of fat sheep filled thirteen races, the same number as last week. At the start of the sale good sheep mad© values equal to those of last week, but lighter sorts were a bit easier. However, prices for the latter soon firmed up, atnd all round the sale ■was as good as last, week’s. Export buyers operated actively. Best wether mutton made up to 7?Jd a lb. A good line of seventy-gix wethers from Messrs J. and P. Clinton (Darfield) made from 46s to 56s 6d, the latter price for eight. An exceptionally good line of ewes was forwarded by Mr J. F. Cooney (Morven). the top pen of sixteen making 43s Fat lambs met with a keen demand, and the best realised a.full lid a lb. Overweights made and light weights lOd. In the Store sheep section there was a particularly large entry for this time of the year. With the exception of old ewes, which eased back in price by 2s to 83 a head, the demand was satisfactory for all sorts.

There was a medium entry of store cattle consisting mainly of old cows. There was a good demand for potters, but other sorts were not wanted. The entry of dairy cattle was made up mostly .of backward 1 calvers and cows in milk. The few cows and heifers close to calving that were offered met with a very keen demand.
