Mrs J. Blaok-Batchelor has returned to Ricearton from eouth. Mrs R. Young, River Road, is spending the school holidays at The Forts.

Mr and Mrs W. Grey (Dunedin arrived from the north this morning and have registered at Warner's Hotel. A special dance will be held to-night at the St Asaph Street flail. A long night carnival danco will be held on Monday at the St Asaph Street Hall.

The Diploma Ball which takes place on Friday evening, will begin at 11.30 p.m. at the conclusion of the College Revue.

Mrs H. Brett, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs Walcot Wood (Hea-' ton Street), will leave for Auckland tomorrow.

Mr and Mrs E. Cameron (Dunedwj), Mr and Mrs Arthur Nicholls (Kurihika) and Mr and Mrs A. G. Reid (Wellington are guests at the United Service Hotel.

The Te Whaka Plain Dance Assembly l»eid their weekly Saturday night danco in the Sydenham Football Hall on Saturday. Over one hundred couples were present. Mr G. Caid was M.C.

Am appeal was recently made for blankets for the Children’s Convalescent Cottage at New Brighton. A very pleasing incident in connection with this occurred on Sunday afternoon when amid terrific wind and rain Master Alwyn Tyson and his brother took to the cottage two large blankets which had been purchased with their own pocket money. On Saturday evening a very jolly fciithday party was held in honour of Miss Dorothy Hewinson at her paremts’ lesidence. 87 Barbour Street. Linwood The evening was passed pleasantly in games and dancing, the music being supplied ''by Mr H. Colter and Misses G. Clarlf and R. James. Supper was served and the cake looked very effective. On Friday next. May 16, a. dance in aid of the local Ptimket funds will be held in the Darfield Memorial Hall. The manaement is in the hands of Mrs J. O. Redfern and Mrs T. Hutton, who are receiving liberal donations towards expenses. The supper is being provided by the ladies of the district. The result of a competition will be decided on the same evening. A beautiful cake given by Mrs E. Ridgen (Greendale). and a large doll given by Mrs J. Narbey (Darfield) and cleverly dressed by Miss Annie* Paynter, being the prizes. Gyeat interest is being taken in the building of a house for Plunket Nurse Currie, whose work in the Malvern and Tawera districts is becoming most valuable. The branches (five in number) have provided her with a Ford coupe, and now are undertaking the erection of a residence, suitable for the nurse's work as well as her home, and meeting with generous support from an appreciative ptfblic. On Friday night a very enjoyable dance was held in the Hororata Hall, under the auspices of the Hororata Horticultural Society. The hall was decorated with greenery and yellow chrysanthemums, whilst the supper tables were adorned with vases of pink and bronze chrysanthemums. Music was supplied by Mrs Critchley and Miss Martin (violin) and extras were given by Mr Rangi Greening.' The duties of M.C, devolved upon Mr W. S. Pratt. Mrs Duncan Gillanders entertained a largo number of her old Malveru friends at her residence, Head Street, Sumner, on Wednesday afternoon. A delightful time was spent with music anti a competition. Songs were pleasingly sung by Mrs Duncan Gillanders, Mrs F. Bull and Miss Bill. The competition prize was won by Mrs J Reid (Darfield). Afternoon tea was served in the spacious drawing loom, which v. as tastefully decorated with autumn flowers. Mrs Gillanders, assisted by her sister. Miss Lill, received the guests. She was wearing a'beautiful gown of blue silk marocain, with georgette sleeves. Miss Lill wore a very becoming frock of black chiffon velvet. Amongst those present were Mesdames D. Gillanders, G F. The afternoon was brought to a close with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” The Spreydon Tennis Club held their second dance of the season on Saturday evening last in the Coronation Hall. The ball was prettily decorated with navy blue and red streamers, .while bunches of balloon®, hung at frequent intervals from the ce ing. Miss Tilley-short’s band supplied the dance music. Mr and Mrs H. Bicknell returned to Cashmere Hills from the West Coast yesterday. Mr and Mrs Hamilton (Sumner), Mrs Lee and her sister, Miss Pender (Redcliffs) are at Waimate. Miss Bromley Cocks (Webb Street) is spending a lew days with Miss Tripe before going to visit Mrs Burdon at Woodbury for a few days. Mrs Osmond Smith and her two children, also the Misses Edwards, Ross, Turner and Cooper are guests at Godley House, Diamond Harbour. The Spreydon Tennis Club held their second dance of the season on Saturday e-vening last in the Coronation Hall, Domain Terrace.
