A NEW OPERA.
BY NEW ZEALAND COMPOSER. (Special to the “ Star.**) WANGANUI, January 11. Mr Frank Hutchings, a well known pianist of the Sydn* v Conservatorium of Music*, is on a holiday visit to Wanganui. Speaking of musical- matters he mentioned that just recently he heand a new opera composed by Mr Alfred Hill, “The Spirit of Heaven.” It was given at a private performance, and Mr Hutchings described th© production as splendid and the finest thine Mr Hill has ever written. Th© young New Zealand 6inger, Mr M’Kinley, was cqe the leading artists in Mr Hill’s opera. Speaking
of the New South Wales State Orchestra he said that a new one wa* being formed, and although not on a« large a scale as previously, it would nevertheless be able to give many satisfactory entertainments; this year.
