LATEST DECISION OF UNIONIST CABINET PROPOSALS TO EXPAND PREFERENCE SYSTEM. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn. (Received January 12, 10.40 a.m.) LONDON. January 12. The “ Daily Telegraph ” says that Cabinet held a meeting lasting two and a half hours, and it decided to drop the protectionist issue, and the King’s Speech will contain no mention of a general tariff on manufactured goods. Certain Ministers strongly desired to nail the protectionist flag to the mast, but they accept the present position loyally. The Speech will include proposals for the expansion of the preference system, assistance for development schemes in the Dominions, and other matters agreed upon by the Empire Conferences.
