MANY TRAVELLING.
TRAINS STILL FULL. Despite the fact that the New Year holidays have terminated, largo numbers of people are still travelling. The southern express this morning was a full train. It comprised twelve cars and four vans, an unusually large train for a Friday. The manner in which the West Coast traffic is keeping up is surprising the railway authorities. People are flocking to the West Coast, The exhibition at Hokitika is an attraction,, but besides this there seems to be an especial lure about the West Coast that is exerting a magnetic influence. (hie of the greatest factors making for a continuance of the large volume of traffic is the fact that people can now go right through to the Coast without the necessity of leaving the train and making the trip over Arthur’s Pass. Despite its scenic attractions, it is now evident that the coach journey of the old days was a great bar to traffic, and the supplanting of this by modem facilities of travel has had a wonderful effect on the volume of traffic. This morning’s train to the West Coast comprised seven carriages all well filled. DAILY SERVICE TO COAST. When the daily train service to the W T est Coast was instituted to meet the demands of people wishing to visit the exhibition at Hokitika, it was intended that a return should be made to the normal three days-a-week service tomorrow. Owing, however, to tho way the traffic has keut up and the fact that largo numbers of people are still travelling daily, it has been decided to continue the daily service for another week, and it will not now be terminated till January 19.
