STOCK PRICES.

SUMMARY OF YESTERDAY’S SALE.

Mutton and beef both showed an improvement in price at the metropolitan weekly market at Addington yesterday. The improvement in beef was duo largely to the much smaller entry, only 380 head being forward, compared with 600 last week. Good steer beef sold at* from 35s to 45s a head above late rates, whilst lighter stuff improved by up to 255. Prices a 1001 b were: —Best beef to 37s 6d, prime 32s to 3os, medium 27s Od to 31s Od, light 23s to 275, and rough 12s Od to 20s. Six steers from Sir George Clifford (Stonj’hurst) made from £ls 15s to £l6 17s 6d, the average price being £l6 4s. There were nine races of fat sheep forward, two more than last week. The entry included several large drafts of good sheep from the Chatham Islands. The sale opened brightly with prices showing an advance all round of from Is to 2s a head above late rates. Over the last two races the demand eased somewhat, though right at the end of the sale there was a recovery. Prices a lb were :—Best wether mutton medium 6id to O^d. ewe mutton od to Od. Top wether price 39s was secured for nineteen sold on behalf of a client, and -Mr C. R. Murray (Balmoral) secured 38s lOd for the tops of a truck of sixtysi jy. wethers. Fat lambs inet with a good demand, though values were on a slightly lower basis than last week. However, there was little quotable change in values. Although store sheep prices were lower than at the previous market the sale was a very fair one, all tilings con- ! sidered. '• The entry of store cattle was a small one. No steers were forward and competition for the cows and heifers offered was dull. On account of the tact that the quality of the dairy cattle penned was not too good sales m this department proved rather difficult to make. There was an overflow entry of vealers and as a result prices declined considerably The demand for pork Was not so keen as last week, but bacon sold firmly iat late rates. In the store pig department a drop was recorded in the price of weaners, small stores sold at late rates, whilst medium stores were in good demand. Follow ing are ranges of values ; FAT CATTLE.
