AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION
MONTHLY AIEETING. The monthly meeting of the Canterbury Automobile Association was beta last evening. Present-—Messrs Dudley, Dobson (chairman), N. AI. Orbell, R. W. Lochhead. H. E. Kennett, F. Lill, H. C. Harvey, F. D. Sargent, W. R. Carey, O. W. B. Anderson. 1. V. de Beei, F. W. Johnston. R. Macartney, H. G. Livingstone and Dr P. S. Foster. The secretary of the Cheviot Progress Committee wrote, asking the association to supply two sign boards to place at the intersection of roads, one to be a doublt one. “To Leamington; To haikoura ” and the other To Ivaikoura. The letter stated that at present motorists often became confused and had to retrace their way over seven miles or 1 °HTie matter was referred to the roads commi ee. received from the Heathrote Countv Council asking for financial assistance to enable the council to keep a man in permanent emplojmni upon the road from Cashmere terminus to the foot of the hill on the Govei nor s Bay side for the purpose of maintaining the road in good order and repair. A similar request was being mad© to the Pioneer Sports Club. Mount Herbert County Council and Christchurch. City Council. The council anticipated that the annual cost of keeping the road m good repair would be £2OO for a naan s letter was referred to the roads and finance committee. „ . The clerk of the Springs County Council wrote stating that the council had decided to make, a new track to the Sehvvn ford at Norwood where suggested over the railway line. The work would be put in hand as early as possible. It. was decided to write the council and enclose a cheque for £0 towards the cost of the wark. , The Canterbury Progress league forwarded a letter which asked for the practical support of the association in connection with the appeal that was now being made to all sections of the public for subscriptions towards the establishment of e. special publicity fund for advertising Canterbury at the British Empire Exhibition. The Association decided to vote the sum of £3 3s towards the. object. An a Dpi iea t ion was made for the erection of a “go slow'* notice board between Sehvvn and Somerset Streets in Jerrohi Street. Spreydon. A largo number of the children attending Addington School use Somerset Street as an exit and the corner is very dangerous to them as they cannot see if a vehicle practicallv in tiie middle of the street. lt was decided to forward the sign. On the motion of Mr H. G. LivingStone it was decided to instruct the house committee, to hold a gymkhana or some other such function on a suitable date alter Year, the idea being ~ making\u total o'f '22f l since the animal meeting in October.
