FIRST CHRISTMAS BOXES.
AA’e all like Christmas boxes, even if we do not get many. Tn. ancient, days, i equally as now. they were given and ■ refused. Tlie Church began the practice by placing a box at th© church door for Christmas alms- which same were to be distributed among the poor. The Catholic Apostolic, or Irvingite. Church perpetuates th© custom to day. It was the C ity of London which led the way 500 years ago against the begging of Christinas boxes. Tho Court of Aldermen declared that: ‘ Tt is ordered that no Sergeant of the City shall in future beg or require of any person of any rank any uiogeya on pain s of losing his__office.,’•' ;.vy
