What is the best dietetic preliminary :to Christmas Day? Should wo praci tise a semi-fast on Christmas Eve or 1 carry on as usual? The question was j put to one who ate hit, seventieth ! Christmas dinner more than twenty ! years ago. and was a stickler tor old ! customs .though ho has not had a tooth i in his head tor about a quarter of a j century. ‘ I have always made it a l rule.” he said, ‘ to have a good supper i of Yule cake and Stilton on Christmas Eve, washed down, perhaps, with a glass of port or good beer, and I can assure you it is very good.” Yulo cake (containing sugar and spice and all that’s vni'ce), w ith cheese and tawny port, at ninety-five—as a Christmas Eve nightcap !
