MISTLETOE AND THE KISS.
How and when mistletoe first cam© to he used as a Christmas evergreen is something of a. mystery, but it will be noticed that it ir more favoured as a decoration for the home than for the church. As for the kiss under the mistletoe, surely this lias to do with the lasting magic of a kiss. “ Well, you will he my friend henceforth. You cannot help feeling kindly to a girl you have kissed,” says one of Marryat’s heroines. These lines put the modern case for mistletoe in pleasing fashion Yet why should this holy and festival mirth In the reign of old Christmastide only be found ? Hang up all love’s mistletoe all over the earth. And let us kiss under it all the year round.
