The Governor-General. Viscount Jellicoe, celebrated liis sixty-fourth birth day on Wednesday of last week. Sjr Francis Bell, Acting Prime Minister, the Hon' W. Downie Stewart, Minister of Industries and Commerce, and Sir It. Heaton Rhodes, Minister of Defence, who will participate in the opening ceremony in connection with the Westland Exhibition, left for Hokitika this morning. Mr Walter Baxter, having disposed of his pharmacy in Stafford Street, will leave Timaru in to take up his residence in Christohurch in about two months’ time, wires our Timaru correspondent. Mr Baxter is a: partner in the firm of Messrs A. and W. Baxter, of Christchurch, the well-known proprietary medicine manufacturers, and its business has now become so extensive as to demand the attention of both brothers at the head office. Mr Baxter, who is well and popularly known, especially in sporting circles, , will be much missed in Timaru. '•
