THE PRESBYTERY.

The Christchurch Presbytery met at St Paul’s Church schoolroom this morning, the Rev J. Paterson presiding. It w - as decided to send a letter of sympathy to the Rev J. J. Bates, Moderator of the Assembly, in his and his wife’s illness. A motion of appreciation was passed to the Rev J. W. Hayward in his ministry of the Akaroa charge. Mr Hayward is now - in charge of the Barrington Street Church. The Lin wood Home Mission asked to be raised into a Church Extension Charge. The Rev J. Paterson said that the mission was rapidiy growing, and he thought that if the people had a minister of their own the whole charge would very soon become self supporting. Mr Vernazoni, secretary of the mission, stated that the collections tat Limvood averaged £5 each Sunday. The Rev J. Paterson moved that the application be granted and the matter {referred to the Home Missions Committee. The motion was carried. The Rev F. E. H. Baton was granted a students’ certificate, as be proposed l to enter the Theological Hall at Ivnox j College. j The Moderator extended a welcome j to the Rev W. H. P. M’Kenzie.
