SIR THOMAS DEVITT. By 'lVlegraph—Press Association—Copyright Australian aud N.Z. Cable Association. (Received December 10, 12.15 p.m.) LONDON, December 9. The death is announced of Sir Thomas Devitt, shipowner. Sir Thomas Lane Devitt, who was created a Baronet in 1916, was senior partner in the firm of Devitt and Moore. He was born on March -o, 1839. Ho was twice Master of the Skinners Company, at one time .chairman of Lloyd’s Register, and shipping president of the TT.K. Chamber of Shipping in 1890. and president of the Institute of Marine Engineers 1913-14. At one time he was chairman of the London Missionary Society. The heir to the baronetcy is his grandson, Thomas Gordon, born in 1902.

The death is announced of Meggio Albanesi, the actress. Meggie (Margherita) Albanesi, bom in London on October 8, 1899, was a student at the Academy of Dramatic Art, where she gained the Bancroft Gold Medal in 1917, when she played Lady Teazle in “The School for Scandal.’’ She made her first professional appearance on the stage at the Haymarket Theatre, Loudon, on July 23, 1917, playing Lucy Lorimer in “ A Pair of Spectacles.” In 1918 6he toured with Fred Terry and Julia Neilson. In 1919 and 1920 she appeared in a number of pieces in short runs at several London theatres, and subsequently in several successful dramas such aj “ The Skin Game ” ‘ A Bill of Divorcement,” and others.
