TECHNICAL COLLEGE MEMORIAL.

COMPETITIVE DESIGNS INVITED. At the meeting of the Technical College Board of Governors held last evening the question of calling for competitive designs for the proposed memorial hall came in for considerable discusMr M’Gregor W’right said that the question of asking for competitive plans should be brought before the Education Department. He felt confident that if the matter was placed before the Department the board would get something towards the cost of the buildings. He moved that the matter be left to the Buildings Committee. Mr H. T. Armstrong said that £l5O seemed rather a large sum. as the honour of being the successful architect was of itself a large incentive to compete. He considered that the sooner the competitive plans were called for the better. Mr Graham moved than an architect be appointed to prepare plans for the proposed memorial .hall. The motion was seconded bv Mr A. Peverill. Mr Armstrong objected to the motion. saying that it would limit the scope. By calling for competitive designs an architect in the country could compete, and not only an architect, but also an employee. The motion was lost, and it was decided that competitive designs be called. Mr Gahagan moved that there be two prizes. first prize £IOO and second prize £SO. The motion was carried.
