WOMAN LABOURITE ELECTED. LONDON, December 7. A feature of the election was the early polling by women, who mostly seemed the keenest to vote. There was heavy polling in the northern industrial constituencies, but, generally, the day was marked by an absence of excitement. Mr Baldwin and other leaders of parties received enthusiastic ovations in their respective constituencies. The fifteen contests in Glasgow were very lively. The Countess of Warwick, exhausted by her eiforts as the Labour candidate for Warwick and Leamington, remained in bed most of the day. Manchester is now represented by five Liberals, four Labour members and a Conservative. Liverpool has eight Conservatives, two Liberals and one Independent, Mr T- P- O Connor. Mr Asquith was elected at Paisley. Mr .Arthur Henderson. Labour whip, was defeated at Newcastle-upon-Tyne East by a Liberal. Sir R. Aske. Lady Aetor was re-elected at Ply* mouth. Mr C. P. Ammon, handsomely defeated Dame Helen Gwenne Vaughan, Conservative candidate, at Camberwell North. Mr J. H. Thomas (Labour. Derby) and the Attorney-General, Sir Douglas Hogg (St Marylebone) have been reelected. Both of Mr Arthur Henderson’s sons were elected. Sir Harvey Brittain (Conservative) was elected at Acton, Middlesex. Conservatives gained Middleton and Prestwich and Sheffield Park from the Liberals. Sir W. Joynson Hicks. Minister of Health (Twickenham) and Sir P. Lloyd Greame. President of the Board of Trade (Hendon) have been re-elected. A Labourite candidate, Miss Stisan Lawrence, gained East Ham North in a triangular contest. A Prohibitionist, E. Scrymgeour and E. D. Morel ; (Labour) have been re-elected for Dun- , dee. Professor W. A. S. He wins (Conservative) came bottom of the poll at Swansea, where a Labour candidate defeated Sir Alfred Mond. After a recount Dr Macnamara was elected for North-west Camberwell, defeating a Labour candidate. The crowd broke the police cordon at the Town Hall, Chelsea, and chasied the victorious candidate, Sir Samuel Hoare, Secretary for Air, to his committee rooni6, whereas Mr Bertrand Russell. the defeated Labour candidate, was carried shoulder high. r Two Labour candidates, Messrs Sutton and Dukes, gained the Clayton division of Manchester, and Warrington respectively, from Conservatives and Liberals. f Mr J. R. Ciynes has been re-elected for the Platting division of Manchester.* Mr Rathbone, a Liberal, won the Wavertree division of Liverpool from Sir, Harold Smith, a brother of Lord Birkenhead. Mr W. J. Tout, Labour, and Sir Edward Grigg, Liberal, have been reelected for Oldham.
