DR THACKER IN DUBLIN.

A WONDERFUL RECOVERY. “ The city and county of Dublin have wonderfully recovered, and. to a greater extent rebuilt —clean and busy—sunshine seemed to reign there,” wrote Dr H. T. J. Thacker to a Christchurch friend from Belfast under date October 20. Dr Thacker states that Mrs Thacker and be have had a fine three weeks in Ireland and had motored ronnd Dublin^ “We were in the Dail—pronounced Doll—rone morning r.nd heard a fine debate on a ‘ legal bill.* Captain Redmond. a fine speaker and son of John Redmopd, spoke for an hour. All waa peace, but we were particularly scrutinised and examined before we were escorted into the House (a part of the museum, the concert chamber) by our friend Professor O’Sullivan, M-F- The President and Speaker were fine—no noise but just business and keen debate. “ When here (Belfast) we had the luck to strike the opening of the Northern Parliament. We heard Sir James Craig for an hour and saw Lord Carson and his lady. We were taken in by Mr Burnes, a Labour M.P., Belfast West.

“ This city is reconstructing and relaying trams, and thus is in a pretty had way,” continues the Doctor. “Mrs Thacker’s old girl friends have been flocking to see her and ‘ afternoon tea * her. We have motored out and around;, and evidently here, as in Dublin, new civic guards and police are doing good work. To-night we go to Liverpool by direct steamer, then to Matlock and Bath and London. All well and fit and Ireland in quite good form.”
