CANTERBURY ROWING ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Canterbury Rowing Association was held last evening, Mr F. 1). Kesteven occupying the chair. There wear also present Messrs W. Duggan. R. E. Nightingale. W. S. Godfrey, H. H. Berry. R. J. Hobbs. W. Evans, T. A. Grenfell. S. Dunn. W. Whittington, E. S. Yelvin and H. Layton (secretary). The chairman said that th* willows which were blocking the river had nowbeen take,n down and the roots bprned. A letter was received from the City •Council stating that the matter of cutting back the small willows on the river hank had been referred to the Works Committee. The chairman said that the Regatta Committee had increased the prize money Mr W. S. Godfrey was appointed umpire at the Redcliffs Regatta on 'Saturday. The Otago Rowing Association wrote Rtating that there was a possibility or the Port Chalmers Regatta being revived this year. The secretary reported that there was a decrease in the membership of clubs this year, the number last year being 569 amt this year 464. However, the number for Akaroa had not yet been received. Messrs F. D. Kesteven and It. J. Hobbs were appointed delegates to the Olympic Games Committee. Subscriptions and lists of members were received from the Timaru. Cure, Christchurch and Lyttelton Clubs. The Canterbury Rowing Club wrote stating that they had just received a Bestracing l>oat. from George Towns of Sydney and the Customs duty amounted to £l4 5s 9d. The club asked the association for a rebate of the duty. jls it was impossible to obtain boats of the class 'in New Zealand. It was decided to communicate with the New Zealand Council in Wellington asking them to place the matter before the Minister of Customs. The matter of transporting boats to Akaroa for the regatta to be held there was left to the chairman and Mr R. E. Nightingale to arrange. It was resolved not to approve the holding of rowing races at the Sumner Gala. After some discussion the meeting was of the opinion that there were too mo.v events on the Akaroa Regatta programme. It was thought that the programme should be reduced by leaving out the pair-oar It, was decided to write to the Akaroa Club asking them to appoint delegates wno were able to attend or allow the association to appoint delegates for them. The club had not been represented at any meeting of the association. UNION ROWING CLUB. During the past week the club has been rowing off the New Members’ Double Sculls, for the Life Members’ Cup. for which nine crews entered. Of these, two dropped out. but the remaining seven made good progress, and the racing was of a high standard for beginners. The results were as follows: D. Neil and W. ' Greenway beat L. Beardsley and R. G. Todd. This was a good race to Stanmore Bridge, where the winners gradually drew away. F. Duggan and G. W. A’Court beat J. T. M'Gee and F. Rogers. Won by two lengths. C. Watson and E. Sutherland beat W. L. Moore and E. A. Logan. Watson had the better of the start, and maintained his advantage to the finish. R. Wilson and K. Lauchland a bye. I D. Ne:l beat R. Wilson. C. Watson beat F. Duggan. Final.—/This was rowed on Thursdayevening. and proved a very exciting race, the two boats being level practically to the finish. Watson and Sutherland, tho work, and eventually won by half a length. The losers, with a little more practice, should make a formidable crew.
