MDE. LIPKOVSKA’S CONCERTS.

For the second concert Madame Lydia Lipkovska chose frocks as beautiful and fascinating as on her first appearance in Christchurch. Her frocking is indeed wonderful. Madame Lipkovska made her first appearance in a beautiful gown of gold tissue veiled in black net with a cobweb design in gold. Tho skirt was slightly wired at the hips and finished with a brilliant red rose at tho waist. She wore a high round comb of black, ornamented with gold. The Russian costume in which she sang a suite of Russian, songs was of much interest, for it was the costume she wore in tho part of the “ Snow Maiden,’’ a Russian opera, and this is the first time a Christchurch audience has had a chance of hearing excerpts from that work. The dross was all white and heavily embroidered with silver and jewels. The short Russian coat was bordered with white fur and the sleeves were of white chiffon into a wrist-band of silver. Her headdress was magnificent, the cap and long streamers behind being of blue and silver ehot tissue. The high centre was of gold studded with jewels. Madame never forgets her little coloured handkerchief, which the Russians always seem to have at hand. The Spanish frock which she wore was a beautiful things made with a skirt of stiff black silk with scallops of rose wreathe above tho hem and with horizontal bands of red and gold. The bodice was tight fitting with a jewelled panel in the centre front. With tho frock white and black shoes with red heels were worn. From the high Spanish comb fell a beautiful mantilla of black lace patterned in g°W. ___________
