A man from the country came down for the Show, and sheepishly wandered around ; he’d not been in Christchurch since ages ago, and strange were the things that he found- He walked down the footpath, and shortly espied a “ Keep to the Left” traffic sign, and straightway he hurried across to that side, with spirit of duty mostfine. Then pushcarts in millions appeared in his way, and angry men trod on his feet; he thought then tlie sign he’d no longer obey, and tried to cross over the- street. A motor-car misused by an eighth of an inch the driver seemed reckless or blind : and as lie from taxis and trnmears did flinch, a bicycle hit him behind. Bv wearisome progress he got to the Square, with hurrying race-goers pressed ; the trams seemed to come up from stop and rest. He sighed, and lie muttered. ‘Tis awful indeed!* To come here again 1 decline : if life in town goes at such furious speed, the distant tall timber for mine!”
