AN AWARD ANOMALY.
EOY RECEIVES MAN’S WAGES. Fv Telegraph—Press Association— Uopyrignt Australian and N.Z. Cable A&dooHtion. (Received November S, 9.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, November 8. A case disclosing a serious anomaly in the award rate of wages was decided at Albury. A youth whose employer stated that ho was engaged as an errand boy, but who declared that lie had been allotted show work, claimed the full award rate, £-1 10s weekly. Counsel for plaintiff argued that as the award was silent regarding junior labour, his plaintiff was entitled to the full amount. Judge Bo van ruled that as the award stood he must find in favour of plaintiff, but it was quite unreasonable that a mere boy should receive such a large wage, it was detrimental to the country ami discouraged apprenticeship and the value of proper training, which was sc generally recognised as needful.
