Whether the United States will have a part in the new reparations inquirv is much in doubt, as even the modifications to Mr Hughes’s plan, brought forward by I ranee, made it appear to ' some officials that the final draft of the I plan may render American pariicipa- ! tion futile. No final decision will be reached until the exact terms of the French proposals are known. Nothing vet is known officially. The United States ! Ambassador liad a conversation v**tk M. Poincare in Paris to-day. It is understood that the view of tho Government is that anything short of a lull, impartial examination of Germany’s economic situation would fail to be of any useful puipose.
