PERSONAL.
A'TGE-KEGAL. His Excellency the Governor-Gene ral. Lord Jellicoe, on Saturday was present at the meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club at Ricc’nrton. Last evening he attended Divine service at the Cathedral. This morning he laid the foundation stone of the Boys’ High School at Riccarton, and afterwards held an investiture at the Provincial Council Chamber. On the morning of November .8 his Excellency is to unveil the war memorial at Little River. He has arranged to pay a visit to the Olympia motor exhibition during his stay in Christchurch.
.MINISTERIAL. Sir Francis Bell. Acting Prime Minister. is at present on a visit to Christchurch. He is staying at the Christchurch Club. The Hon J. G. Coates was engaged \ on Saturday morning in inspecting the | telephone exchange facilities in Christ- j church, and later paid a visit to the i works of the New Zealand Electrical ' Steel Company at Sock burn. He was j accompanied to the works by »Mr L. 1 Birks. Government electrical engineer, and Air Mac Gibbon, chief engineer of the Lake Coleridge works. The partymade an inspection of the Heron It steel furnace in operation, and the Minister was able to see a cast- of manganese alloy and also a cast of mild steel. The normalising furnace was also inspected. ATr Clut-ha AFackenzie, director of the Jubilee Institute for tho Blind at Auckland, accompanied by Mrs Mackenzie. arrived from the north on Saturday night for tho purpose of setting •ip a permanent- advisory comm ft tee in Christchurch to assist the- trustees of tho institute in caring for the blind people of Canterbury. Thev will leave for Auckland to-night.
