BUILDING BOOM IN AUCKLAND.
MR E. J. HOWARD’S VIEWS. “ Auckland.*’ said Mr E. J. Howard. M.P., who has just returned from a trip to that city, “seems to be in the midst of a building boom. Not only cottages, but some large buildings are going up. There seems to be a wave of optimism passing ovei the northern city, and everyone seems to be in good heart.” Mr Howard went to Auckland to talco part in the Labour Day celebrations. Pine weather and large crowds seemed to be the order of the day. The Labour sports meeting was a, huge success. Two sacred concerts in the open air on Sunday, at which a con tingent of Maoris from Rotorua sang and a brass band rendered music, were well attended. On Monday the sports in the Domain attracted a very large crowd. In the evening there was a display of fireworks at the <’arlnw Park and dancing on the green. The same programme was carried out again on Tuesday evening.
