SPRINGSTON GUN CLUB.

The ladies' day shoot of the Springston Gun Club was ueld at Mr N. Powell'* ou Labour bay. The weather was fane, and a large gathering of visitors was present. There were thirty competitors, ami the shooting, taken all round, waa good. The match was oue of lit’teen ciay pigeons at handicap distance?, a lady to nuuuuate a shooter to shoot for her. At the end of the fifteenth round ilr W. Creamer and ilr J. fcimpsou tied for Ural place with fourteen breaks. In the shoot-oif *>V. Creamer won on ttao sixth round. Messrs N. Powell, W. Patterson, H. Katchard, L. Everest and A. N. Turner tied for third prize with thirteen breaks, \V. Patterson winning on the seventh round. The following were the best scores: —W. First mios out was won by T. Potts and IJ. Hatchard on the fourth round. Mr P. Hill acted as referee, and 7«lr VT. Burney filled the position of scorer. At the conclusion of the shcot, afternoon tea. provided by the cJub. was dispensed. In tho evening a dance was held in the Soldiers' Memorial Hall, when there was 'a. large attendance. During the evening Mr If. U. Jfimber, a, member of t.lxe club, presented the prises to the winners, and congratulated them on their success. Subsequently he said he had a pleasant duty I to perform, and that was to make a small presentation to Mr W. H. Burney, who, although not a member of the elnb. had assisted them iu an excellent, manner at the score Ivoard. He asked Mr Burney tc accept a pipe and a pound of tobacco. Mr Burney, in responding briefly, thanked the club for its excellent recognition of his services, which he never Intended to be rewarded.
