SCHOOL BURNED.
NEAR ASHBURTON. Peb Press Association. ASHBURTON, October 25. The Mayfield School, twenty miles from Ashburton, a wooden building ot forty years standing, was destroyed by fire this morning. The residents discovered the building burning fiercely between four and five o'clock, and it was impossible to save anything. All the school records, trophies for the gardens, for which the school is famous, and equipment were totally destroyed. The c-auae of the fire is a mystery. The wheel accommodated seven tv. The headmaster, Mr C. TV. TVitHell recently retired and is to bo succeeded by Mr I*. C. Heath. of Waikato, pending whose arrival, Mrs W. Miller is in charge. Everything was perfectly sale last evening. A significant fact is that the Inspector is due to-day to hold examinations.
