BALL AT PENDARVES.

On Thursday last the benedicts of Fendarves held their annual ball, which proved to be one of the most successful gatherings of the season. The hall was decorated with green and apricot streamers, Japanese umbrellas and gaily coloured balloons. A large numbrella hanging .in the centre, from wi ich were suspended many smaller balloons of oval shape, was particularly effective There were many bowls filled with graceful sprays of pearl bush and cherry blossom intermingled with the bronze of the prunies, and the whole made a delightful setting for the many pretty frocks that were to be seen. All signs of boisterous weather had disappeared so that in spite of many counter attractions the attendance was large. The music was provided by Mr AY. Rankin. The M.C.’s were Messrs J. Lambie and Cameron. Songs were contributed by Miss R. Halliday, Miss J. M’Millan and Messrs F. Ironside, AV. Halliday, M. Bruce and W. Rankin. The novelty dances were the “nursery rhyme ” waltz, the “mystery maid ” one-step, which was won by Mr C. Hampton and Miss C. Mulligan (Christchurch), and the “Cinderella’* dance, which was won by Mr C. Hurst and Miss Kathleen Bruce. (Seafield). After supper had been served Mr Cecil Hampton, on behalf of the spinsters and bachelors of Pendarves, thanked the benedicts for their hospitality. Bruce (Seafield) spoke on behalf of the visitors present and said the whole evening reflected the greatest ci edit to the benedicts of Pendarves and they were deserving of all hearty thanks. Air G. Hampton then called for the singing of “ For They are Jolly Good Fellows.” Replying on behalf of the benedicts, Mr J.
